How Fear Disguised as Wisdom Is Delaying Your Calling

I lost what God gave me because I waited too long. That’s not easy to admit, but it’s true. I let fear win. And my prayer is that this won’t be your story too.

If you’ve been begging God for a sign, here’s the truth you might not want to hear: you already got one. Deep down, you know exactly what to do. But you're still hesitating. You're still stuck. And while you might think you’re being careful or waiting for clarity, I need to tell you something I had to learn the hard way. Overthinking is not wisdom. It’s fear in disguise. And the enemy loves that.

The enemy wants you stuck in your head. Because as long as you’re overthinking, you're distracted. And when you're distracted, you're disobedient, even if your heart means well. I know, because I’ve been there. God gave me an idea. A name. A vision. And instead of moving on it, I delayed. I questioned it. I let fear convince me I wasn't ready. I replayed the decision over and over in my mind. I searched for confirmation, as if I hadn’t already received it. I asked friends. I researched. I waited. But I didn’t act.

And then, when I finally felt ready, I went to move and everything was gone. The domain. The social handles. The open door. Just like that, I had missed it. I sat with the painful reality that fear had robbed me of an assignment God had entrusted to me. What was once wide open had closed because I hesitated. I learned in that moment that delayed obedience is still disobedience. God doesn’t stop moving because we’re scared. He moves through obedience. And if we won’t say yes, He’ll give the assignment to someone else.

Luke 16:10 reminds us that “whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” God was testing my willingness with something small, just a name, just a nudge, and I didn’t move. But in His grace, He gave me a second chance. He gave me a new name, one that carried the same meaning but felt fresh, set apart, and divinely inspired: Shewiselle. And this time, I didn’t wait. I didn’t overthink. I moved. I made a decision right then that I would not miss my moment again.

So if you’re here, and you've been sitting on an idea, a vision, a calling that just won’t let you go, consider this your wake-up call. You think you’re waiting on God, but the truth is, God is waiting on you. The hesitation you’re experiencing isn't holy. It is fear pretending to be discernment. And I want to help you break free.

Here’s why you’re really stuck.

First, you’re mistaking overthinking for wisdom. You call it being cautious or discerning, but at its core, it’s fear. First Corinthians 14:33 says, “God is not the author of confusion.” If you're stuck spinning in circles, that's not God. Clarity doesn’t come from replaying every scenario in your mind. It comes from trusting His voice.

Second, you keep asking for a new sign when you’ve already received one. You don’t need another prophetic word, another confirmation, or another open door. You need courage. James 1:5 tells us, “If you lack wisdom, ask God,” and you did. But now that He answered, the problem isn’t clarity. It’s courage to obey.

Third, you’ve overcomplicated obedience. You’ve told yourself you’ll start when you have the money, or more time, or more confidence. You’re waiting for the perfect conditions. But Ecclesiastes 11:4 warns us, “Whoever watches the wind will not plant.” If you’re always waiting for things to feel perfect, you’ll never move. Faith acts before it makes sense.

So how do you break free from this cycle of fear and delay?

Step one. Stop asking for clarity when what you really need is obedience. Clarity often follows action. Think about Abraham. God didn’t give him a map. He gave him a word: “Go to the land I will show you.” Not “the land I already showed you.” Faith moves without knowing everything.

Step two. Take one small, scary step today. Whatever your next step is, do it. Send the email. Post the video. Text the friend. Buy the domain. Schedule the call. Obedience is often one small step at a time. Don’t underestimate the power of your yes today.

Step three. Stop praying for comfort and start praying for courage. Psalm 56:3 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” God never said we wouldn’t feel fear. He said we could trust Him in the middle of it. You don’t have to feel brave to move. You just have to trust God more than your fear.

So now I ask you. What’s the thing God has been nudging you to do? That thing that keeps pulling at your spirit, but you keep putting off? Speak it out loud. Write it down. Drop it in the comments. And then move. Because this could be your second chance. And second chances don’t last forever.
